BIOGRAPHY

 L a i   W a i - Y i,   M o n t i   黎 慧 儀

Her works purpose a way to see the surrounding environments, most are site specific and involve found material. They of reflect on personal observations, and in particular, on the relation between art and the environment. Environmental Art for her is not merely about nature or landscapes. Rather its focus should be on the relation between human beings and the entities surrounding them.

Born in Hong Kong, Monti Lai is a local artist. She received the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art), Royal Melbourne Institute of technology (RMIT) University co-presented with Hong Kong Art School in 2004. Currently, she is a MA Student in Environmental Art, Aalto University (former University of Art and Design Helsinki). She has organized solo exhibitions in Hong Kong and Finland and has participated in joint exhibitions in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Estonia, Finland and Germany. She received the Grant for Emerging Artist, Arts Development Council for her début solo exhibition in 2008. She is the co-fonder of the artist and art administration group, Mere Independent Artist in 2004. Her recent projects include the Art Container Project in 2008 as the project manager. Lai was the Artist in Residence in the fall of 2010 in Lingnan University, Department of Visual Studies.
