With the end of “THE DANCE OF REMEMBERING” by Putu Sutawijaya, we are all ready to embrace November with our Reach For the HeART programs. 2014 is the 6th year for Sin Sin Fine Art working with Art In Hospital on this program and we would like to invite more of you to join us in this meaningful art project to bring some joy and dignity to elderly patients facing chronic illnesses in public hospitals through free creative arts workshops. The opening and book launch of our exhibition Roland Hagenberg - “Jean-Michel Basquiat and friends” on 7 November, where Sin Sin, in collaboration with Roland Hagenberg, are publishing the first photographic book about Jean-Michel Basquiat. We will also have an artist talk on 8 November.
Roland Hagenberg - “Jean Michel Basquiat and friends” is the first solo
exhibition in Hong Kong presenting images that captured personal moments of the
most important artists that shaped the art world in the New York 80s, mainly
featuring Jean Michel Basquiat and other renowned artists such as Andy
Warhol, Jeff Koons and Keith Harring.

Jean-Michel Basquiat and friends
Artist: Roland Hagenberg
Event Duration: 7 November - 28 December, 2014
During the 1980s Austrian artist, photographer and writer Roland Hagenberg documented the art world in New York, where he met Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Keith Haring, Louise Bourgeois, Robert Mapplethorpe and dozens of other renowned artists in their studios. Among them was also Jean-Michel Basquiat whom Hagenberg photographed while painting in his Crosby Street studio. The result was a portfolio of black and white photographs depicting Basquiat’s dark-romantic world with a sense of foreboding: A few years later the painter overdosed on heroin at age 28. At auction houses Basquiat’s paintings are now on level with the most expensive contemporary art works worldwide.
A portion of the proceed from this exhibition will be donated to the "Reach for the HeART" programme.

The Joyful Dance of the Dakini

Khandro Thrinlay Chodon is a female spiritual practitioner and teacher of Vajaryana Buddhism. She brings to us a unique perspective having been born into a renowned family of spiritual meditation masters and the royalty of Tibet and training and practicing since young, then studying and living in the west with a Master Degree in Psychology. She is devoted to bringing the wisdom of her ancient tradition alive in our modern world.
It is a great honor to have a special feminine evening at Sin Sin Fine Art with the Female Spiritual Teacher Khandro Rinpoche. She will open the evening with meditation and then give a talk on The Feminine Principle in Buddhism. A short film from Dakini land follows, where healing spirit medicine was made from the essence of the feminine. Lianne Hunt will share with us a Sacred feminine Vajra Dance at the end of evening.

Invoking the Enlightened Feminine Principle: Sacred Dance, Song, Poetry & Feast

Anam Thubten grew up in Tibet and at an early age began to practice in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He is the founder and spiritual advisor of Dharmata Foundation, teaching widely in the U.S. and occasionally abroad. Through the essential wisdom of Buddhism and his personal experience on the spiritual path, Anam Thubten brings alive the timeless teachings and invites everyone to participate

INTERSECTIONS, a premier 2-part cross-cultural exhibition between selected Southeast Asian contemporary artists and five distinctive Cuban artists who have mainly exhibited in the West. The collective of five Cuban artists’ that include renowned artist Yoan Capote, multidisciplinary artists’ Douglas Arguelles and Adonis Flores, and Europe-based Cuban artist Maykel Linares, constitute the Cuban dialogue of the exhibition. The Southeast Asia selection which comprises of leading contemporary Indonesian artists; Yunizar, Handiwirman Saputra, Ugo Untoro & Putu Sutawijaya, along with acclaimed Malaysian artist Ahmad Zakii Anwar complements the other part of the exhibition.

Abdi setiawan investigate the psychology and contextual consequences from replicating violence since the early days for his previous figures; the things, prostitutes, and working class people. The future is here is the new chapter of Abdi Setiawan as one of the innovative sculptor in Indonesia Contemporary Art.

Galungan and Kuningan Festival

Galungan is one of Bali’s major festivals, celebrating the return of Gods and ancestor to earth and the victory of good against evil. In every entrance of temples and houses there will be “penjors” - tall bamboo poles beautifully decorated with the coconuts/ palm leaves along with the core is filled with crops (rice, coconut, fruits, cake) and fabrics (white and yellow colour). This is the best time to visit Bali during the Christmas season.
