Earthly Evocations: Indonesian Art Now // Group Exhibition
On 17th of May, Sin Sin Fine Art proudly opened Earthly Evocations: Indonesian Art Now, an exciting, specially curated group exhibition of performances, installations, sculptures and paintings by leading and emerging Indonesian contemporary artists, including Jumaldi Alfi, Hanafi, Kokok P. Sancoko, Lie Fhung, M. Irfan, Nasirun, Pande Ketut Taman, Putu Sutawijaya, S. Teddy D., Tisna Sanjaya, and the venerable émigré artist Arie Smit, whose work has rarely been exhibited in Hong Kong. Each of these dynamic artists represents special strengths and characteristics of the Indonesian contemporary art scene, and their coming together in a group exhibition constitutes a rare and celebratory event in Hong Kong. To celebrate this special occasion, Sin Sin Man is showing her wearable art series as a Guest Artist, featuring unique hand-painted batik on cotton works.
The Earthly Evocations: Indonesian Art Now, which is co-curated by Valerie C. Doran & Sin Sin Man, is held in all three spaces: the gallery spaces at 53 and 54 Sai Street, plus the atelier space at 52 Sai Street. Yes, we have transformed the Atelier into a 2-story gallery space filled with amazing works of art!
The event begun with a VIP Preview at 11:30 am when friends and customers of Sin Sin Fine Art started to arrive at Sai Street. The fun continued on at the Opening Night when so many art-lovers from all over the world filling in the gallery spaces and the street space in between - from Asia to Australia, to USA and Europe. At some point, it felt like the Who's Who List of Indonesian contemporary art world were there: from the participating artists, to other Indonesian artists such as Agus Suwage, Rudi Mantofani and Yuli Prayitno, and curators like Enin Supriyanto and Rifky Effendi, and gallery owners such as Biantoro of Nadi Gallery, Edwin Rahardjo of Edwin's Gallery, Deddy Irianto of Langgeng Gallery and many more. So much positive energies flowed that evening!
We are honored that the Indonesian Vice Consul officiated the show by pouring water onto a little paddy field especially prepared for the ceremony as a symbol of nurturing support to the Indonesian art development. The highlight of the evening was the performance by renown artist-activist Tisna Sanjaya which was so moving. He got the audience to participate, being a part of his performance. We are very grateful for this rare opportunity to present and to experience such a meaningful art performance here in Hong Kong.
Please click this link to enjoy a glimpse of the fun and wonderful ambience of the opening night:
Finally, we would like to thank Komaneka Gallery and Neka Museum for their support and collaboration in bringing out Indonesian art to the international audience. We would also like to thank Garuda Indonesia and The Indonesian Consulate in Hong Kong for their support.

Alfred Ko // Solo Exhibition and Book Launch
Opening Reception: June 28, 2012 6 – 9 pm Exhibition Duration: 28 June – 28 June 2012
Sin Sin Fine Art is pleased to present a photography exhibition, Agoraphobia by Alfred Ko. It is a series of portraits of public space, or space abandoned by the public. While the agora is commonly known as an open space used for markets and public meetings in ancient Greece, Agoraphobia addresses not ancient history, but the oblivion of history as that which makes us human. Ko has been contemplating on the way built environments become oppressive forces that break up social fabrics over the past ten years. Select works from his first ever color series Claustrophobia featured in this exhibition reveal how ill-favored colors of our consumerist society are blinding. From condemning congestion and decay, Ko moves on to evocation. Agoraphobia is the flip side of colorful lives emptied out of values. It confronts the deliberate policies and systems of power that constitute the void. The portraits are the remains of the purges.
At the same time, Alfred Ko will be launching the book "HongKong/China Photographer Series 7" - published by Asia One.

Opening: 9 June, 2012 (Sat) 4:00pm *Rental United will give a performance at 5pm
Exhibition period: 9 June - 14 July, 2012

In this exhibition, nine Hong Kong artists show recent work; and, amongst their individual intentions and messages, they reveal a little about themselves. Amidst the frenzy of Hong Kong's supposed recent "art boom", the actual work that artists undertake - the thinking, conceptualization and physical realization of a project - should also be appreciated. In 'Traits, curator John Batten will briefly tease out some personal qualities within each artists' work.
