Rick Lewis & Alexis Granwell – Exhibition at Mount Airy Contemporary Artists Space

5 March – 2 April 2011

Rick Lewis is a New York based painter who has shown internationally. Alexis Granwell is a sculptor and printmaker working in Philadelphia. Both artists engage in their work with a sculptor’s sensibility. Granwell’s sculptures, wall-based assemblages, and prints evoke the sense of painting supports or infrastructure exploding; a frenzy of raw material desperately seeking a center of gravity. Lewis’ method of mark making on his canvases is fundamentally a form of carving, of digging into material surfaces. These are objects that are direct expression of makers interested in physicality over ethereality. Opening reception will be held on 5 March 2011, 6 – 8pm.
