Sin Sin Fine Art is pleased to present a duet exhibition of the contemporary artists, Rick Lewis and Youri Leroux, from 30 June to 30 July 2011. Both artists are using abstract style to express their view of life, nature, and things evolved around them but in different ways. The juxtaposition of these artworks has created a new visual experience for audiences. Rick Lewis is a New York based painter. Lewis’ method of working on his canvases is fundamentally a form of carving, of digging into material surfaces. These are objects that are direct expression of makers interested in physicality over ethereality. His artworks relate to actual events, stories, legends, mythologies and nature. Youri Leroux is a French painter characterized by his reserve, his typical northern France inwardness and his sentimental attachment to his family and origin. With an interest to apprehend the matter, Youri works on successive layers of muted colours and material, then scraps and scratches it in order to reveal the bottom layers, forming rhythm and contrast. With his home studio overlooking green pastures, Youri’s work revolves around the few main themes of nudes, landscapes, flowers and cows, where he finds joy in juggling between the figurative and the abstract. “A big canvas provides a living support for the symbolic language of my paintings, and it allows me to burst my inner energy into my work… I can’t wait to be back in my studio!”
