Hong Kong, May 1, Chouinard Gallery HK / Sin Sin Fine Art, in co-operation with the French Consulate, is pleased to present a solo exhibition by French artist Youri Leroux as an event of Le French May. There will be a talk on “Art & Architecture” by the artist at the Volkswagen Fotogalerie, Fringe Club from 6:30-8pm on April 29.  A Preview will take place in the presence of the artist and the French Consul (Culture & Science) Mr Michel. Guyot on April 30, 6:30pm – 8:30pm.  The exhibition opens from May 1 to the public.

This exhibition brings us to Youri’s world of art in the theme of sensuality and writing through his latest nudes and abstract paintings. Works include oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas. Playing with colours and materials, the paintings are indeed the theatre of the artist’s unrestrained imagination.

Youri was born in Croix, the North of France, 1972. Originally an architect, encouraged by true art lovers and the success of his paintings, he left his job to devote himself to his art. He subsequently applied geometric ideas in a literary theme. What emerges is more intimate and reassuring with the sense of perspective, depth and repetitions are the effects by contrasting materials and colours.

The sumptuousness of the colours, so dense, luminous and yet articulate, the viewers are captivated at the very first look. Usually covering the entire canvas with a deep layer of hues of red to start with, Youri then amasses materials and paint by scratching and applying colour upon colour with textural brush works. Layer after layer, the artist constantly searches for a new effect of light and colours.  Youri Leroux’s art is a vehicle for suggestions, associations and new developments. He paints with amazing spontaneity that creates wonderful sense of rhythm and volume. Looking at Youri’s works is wanderings in a garden of dreams so warm, sensual and surprisingly palpable.
