P e t e r D i t t m a r
Born in Munich, Germany in 1945, Peter Dittmar studied in the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, after which he taught Art in public schools and colleges for 14 years, until he started to live and work in Bali, Indonesia in 1982. Dittmar held a teaching post at the Academy of Fine Arts in Jakarta from 1982 to 1984, then switched to the Federal University of Para in Brazil in 1986. In 1994 Dittmar built his first studio in Sydney, and moved there to live and work in 2002.
A respected artist in his country of origin, Germany, and in Australia as well as in Bali, where he spends half of his time since 1982, Dittmar shows us that abstraction is indeed alive and well. Nourished by the sources of both Eastern cosmic philosophy and Western knowledge, he enables one to forget both form and colour as we behold, giving us the chance blending ourselves into the Void and Stillness of the cosmic OM. 'Early education, the influence of the tropics, the power of meditation and Balinese spirituality forms a mixture of Eastern and Western influence', as Peter Dittmar himself describes it.
